- [Nigel] Hi, I'm Nigel French. Welcome to Type Tips. I'm in Illustrator this week, with an interesting tip about exceeding the maximum type size. My artboard is six feet by four feet. Because in Illustrator, we can specify our unit of measurement in feet and in feet and inches or in yards. So we can go really, really big. But the maximum type size is 1296 points. I cannot go beyond that. Now, of course, I'm aware that I could convert the type to outlines and then scale it 'til my heart's content. But in doing that, my type would no longer be editable. I'm aware that I can output my work at a larger percentage. If I created this smaller and then output it at 200 or 300, 400%, that is also a solution. But let's say I want to output at actual size, and I want to use bigger editable type. Well, all I need do is come to the Character panel and to my vertical and horizontal scale.
