Sidechaining

- [Instructor] One of the issues when we are mixing a complex project with multiple tracks that contain events that fluctuate in volume is trying to avoid the problem of getting the combined volume of the tracks getting too loud. In fact, it can be worse than that. We often find ourselves in a situation where we think we have the balance right between two tracks, only to find it doesn't consistently stay balanced owing to the fluctuating volumes. With this narration track and piano track for example, it would be useful if I could automatically lower the level of the piano when the narration occurs. But then have the piano rise back to original level when there are pauses in the narration. Well, that's what we'll look at here by using a technique called "sidechaining." This technique can be done to VST 2 and VST 3 effects. But it is made considerably easier with VST 3 effects. That's what we'll do here. We'll use a VST 3…
