How do I shoot a pure black backdrop?

- Hi there, I'm Robbie Carman. - And I'm Rich Harrington. - And welcome back to another week of Video Gear Weekly. And Rich this week we're still talking about backdrops but we're going to talk about the use of a black backdrop or background. - [Rich] Yeah, this is a really powerful technique. It adds a lot of drama. It really puts the focus on your subject. And there are so many different ways of doing it. We're going to explore approaches that are really simple just using a black piece of fabric that you put behind. Or you could step up to a professional backdrop, or we'll even show ya, believe it or not Rob, you could shoot in a white studio, and here's a crazy idea. If you just leave most of the lights off and only light your subject the white studio turns black. - That makes sense. So there's a lot of different options. We're going to go from sort of the simple to the more sophisticated. But the black background or the black backdrop is definitely a powerful way to light and frame your subject.
