Introduction to the Panasonic DMC-FZ1000

- Hi, my name is Rich Harrington, - And I'm Robbie Carman. - Welcome to this week's episode of Video Gear Weekly. Rob, we have a camera which is sort of Panasonic's second entry into 4k video, and I got to admit, I was shocked at how much I liked this camera. There's pros and cons, we're going to explore 'em, but I was at PhotoPlus Expo in New York, I bumped into Thomas Curley who's an exec with Panasonic who I've interacted with in the past. He's like, you got to see this, and I was like, yeah yeah yeah, fixed lens, why would I ever use that? And I'm like, huh, as a second shooting camera or a third angle, this is my favorite camera. - One I also think has an entry level way into 4k hybrid cameras, this is a fantastic camera. Obviously the Panasonic GH4 has gotten a lot of buzz over the past year or so, and it in itself is an excellent, excellent camera, we've talked about it in our previous episode. This camera is kind of a hybrid form factor. Again, kind of looks DSLRish, but as you pointed out, it is a fixed lens, which makes it pretty unique, and at first glance that might seem like a bad thing, but I got to tell you, I was really impressed by the sort of ergonomics of this camera. Obviously the 4k recording works pretty well. I was most impressed by this lens. I thought it was going to be a really limiting factor, but it's a gigantic zoom range, a powerful lens in terms of reach into a scene, and overall, this is a fantastic camera. So yeah, I'm eager to talk more about this camera, and we had a lot of fun shooting with it this week. - All right, so we're going to explore the brand new FZ1000 in depth, it's a cool camera, and we'll walk you through the pros and cons as well as some of the major items in the menus to keep an eye out for.
