- [Instructor] Now that you've got a better idea of what's involved in data science in education and educational management and policy, you may want to have some ideas on how you can actually get a job and get paid doing this. Well, there are a few things that you need to make this work. You need qualifications, you need experience in the field, and you also need the relevant connections. Fortunately, these aren't too hard to get. Let's talk first about getting qualified. Now you may recognize this little Venn diagram. It's the Data Science Venn diagram by Drew Conway. And the idea here is that to work in data science you need a few different things. You need hacking skills, that is computer programming because that's how you gather the data and manipulate the data. You need math and stats skills, that is, quantitative fluency because that's how you make sense of the data. And then finally, you need substantive expertise.
