Data science for education management and policy

- [Instructor] Education is a data rich field but the ability to get meaningful insights from that data has not kept up with the amount of data that is created both through educational records and through extensive standardized testing. Fortunately data science can help close that gap and get actionable results from the deluge of educational data. I'm Barton Poulson and in this brief course we'll take a non-technical conceptually oriented look at how data science can be effectively used in the fields of educational management and policy. We'll explore the ways that the principles and practices of data science can be used to help teachers, administrators and legislators better understand their students, efficiently create curricula, evaluate the effectiveness of their progress, create meaningful interactions between students and teachers, protect vital data and help educational organizations support their teachers as they support their students. We'll mention some of the important procedures that are used in data science but more importantly we'll explore how these ideas are used in education to better understand the learning process and provide richer experiences for students. Because this is a non-technical overview anyone with an interest in education regardless of their technical background can get important ideas and insights from this course. And so let's get started with The Data Science of Educational Management and Policy.
