- [Instructor] When it comes to issues of national security the ideal situation is perhaps complete boredom, because it means that nothing noteworthy is happening, instead of having to worry about the world ending, you just have to worry about where you put your car keys. And data science can help bring about this ideal condition. We'll start by looking at three different kinds of threats to national security. We'll look at terrorism, physical attacks on people, and cyberattacks on infrastructure and cyber espionage. There are many other possibilities, many things that affect national security, but these are three that have received special attention recently. We'll begin by looking at terrorism, and specifically the attempt to predict terrorist attacks. Now when you're trying to do a model to predict when a person is likely to commit a terrorist attack, there are a lot of things that you can look at.
