- [Instructor] Some of the most important issues relevant to data science and government and political science as it applies to data science really anywhere, are issues of privacy and ethics. One of the important things is that people have a fundamental expectation of privacy. People expect it. It's part of polite society and it's what you normally do. And many companies, tech companies in particular, promise privacy and they promise to protect their customer's data. And in addition, there are several government policies that support privacy and confidentiality for consumers. But it turns out that people have many legitimate concerns about this. So for instance, in a recent survey by the Pew Research Center on internet privacy, they found that 91% of the people surveyed felt that consumers had lost control over how personal information is collected and used by companies.
