Directing photographers, illustrators, and typographers

- Photographers, illustrators, and typographers are all crucial contributors to a project. When it comes to directing them, the same rules I outlined for directing designers apply here. The main difference is that these artists are usually responsible for a specific aspect of a given project, and after their contribution is done, they're not involved in the full roll-out of the project. So, that said, they should still receive a full creative brief so they know exactly what the context is for the entire project. For example, if you're hiring someone to do an illustration for a book, it's necessary for them to know all about the book. I know that seems obvious but it doesn't always happen. Ideally they should be able to read some of it, and understand the subject matter, but they should also know the context for their illustration. Will it be one of many different styles?
