- [Voiceover] So now we've got the basic line drawing of the apple, we can start to build up the tones. I'll then shade a midtone along the form shadow core still using the 2B pencil. So even though you can tell is going to be darker than this eventually, it will just help you to judge the different tones within the drawing. I can shade the apple stalk as dark as you can get it. It's practically black on the reference image, and it doesn't need to blend into any other tones so I can afford to go as dark as possible with the pencil. I can begin to indicate the surrounding shadow areas in the hollow of the apple as well. Now I'll swap to a softer pencil, this is a 6B, and I begin to shade in the majority of the core shadow. Notice how the angle of the shading with the pencil is the same as when I put in the form core shadow. Again I'm keeping it quite light like a midtone and then I could always go darker later on. And I continue to shade over the circular edge of the apple. And this…
