Charcoal, pens, and paper stumps

Charcoal, pens, and paper stumps

I've also got some charcoal, and this is called nitram charcoal. And what's really nice about Nitram charcoal is that it's harder than normal willow charcoal, and it comes in different strengths. So you can get an HB and a B and an H in it. So it gives you a variety of hardnesses for doing your drawings. I sharpen the charcoal by either using a block of sandpaper or just some sandpaper from the hardware store. And you can just rub it against it just to get a nice point onto your charcoal. I've also got a couple of paper stumps. And these are compressed paper. And they're going to be really handy for smoothing out and smudging areas of our graphite and our charcoal. I've got a couple of pens, an overhead projector marker, which has got a thicker point to it, and just a fine liner. This is a 0.5 mm fine liner. Any black fine liner will be fine. Now we've got all our materials together, we can now look more in-depth at the different principles of light and shadow.
