Monet: Light and dark patterns

Shadow mapping doesn't always have to be used with still lives and cast shadows. You can use the same principles with landscapes, just looking at the lights and the darks and the compositional patterns that balance your scene. So lets have a look at this Monet painting, where there isn't any obvious cast shadows, but there's still a pattern of light and dark. This forms the foundation of the piece, and we're just going to sketch it out using the pens again. So, I'm just going to do a couple of marks on here, just so we can see where the bridge is on the painting, and then we can just start doing our sketch from there. So, just using your frame, you can just line it up. Okay. That's great. And again, you can just start to use your pen to sketch in these, these actual shapes of the shadows. So I'm just squinting my eyes. And when you squint your eyes, it simplifies the shadow tone.
