- What I'm gonna do now is talk through some of the materials we'll be using on this course. And the first thing we're gonna start with is our sketch pads. For landscape sketching, I'll often use a sketch pad that's got a landscape orientation to it. And this can be really handy because you can start to work over both pages in the sketch pad. So you can extend it out. And this can be really useful for if I'm doing a panoramic painting or a panoramic sketch 'cause I've got this really wide area that I can work the sketch in between. If I'm out on location and I'm going to be using watercolors and I'm just going to be like sitting on the edge of a wall or kind of holding it in my hand when I do the sketches, I'll often use a sketch pad that's got a portrait orientation. And this means that I can hold the sketch pad in my hand but also balance watercolor pans on the left-hand side of it. You kind of grab it with your thumb.
