- So with acrylics you also get lots of different gels and mediums. They come in pots or tubes, and they can be really effective for changing the consistency and the handling properties of the paint. For example, the Soft Gel Gloss, when you have a look at that, has got this nice, soft nature to it, so you can mix that in with your pigment, and move it around the canvas. I'm just going to show you now the differences between diluting the paint just with water, and then what happens when you add gels and mediums into the paint instead. So this is just dipped into some water, and what you can start to see is, as it gets more watery, because the tear-off palette I'm working on has got a shiny surface, the water starts to pool into these little, these little droplets, it doesn't stay in one complete paint film.
