Choosing a white

- Often when choosing a white for acrylic painting, students often go for the most affordable white possible. But a little bit of investment here in using a more heavy body, artist quality white, can make a massive difference in your acrylic painting. Because often with acrylics we're working in layers, we're building up solid, opaque passages of color. Having that opacity in the white is so crucial to your mixes. So now let's look at a few different white options, and what different roles they play in your painting. We'll also have a comparison between an artist quality white and a hobby white. The most common white you'll come across in acrylics is called Titanium White. Titanium White is great because it's got an opaque quality to it. The other not-as-common white that is used, but is very, very handy for making subtle mixes, is called a Zinc White.
