Creating texture

- We've already seen the versatility that you can have with gels and mediums. But what I want to show you now is just by using this extra heavy gel, I can put it onto a painting before I even begin. So, here's this little study here. Very simple sunset study. And you'll notice that I've got this gel texture that's underneath the painting. This is applied before I put my paints out. And I just want to show you how you can add texture and movement and have that nice juxtaposition between texture in the foreground, thinner painting in the background, and have it all marry together in the final piece. So, what I've got here is the blank canvas. This is an 8 by 10 inch canvas, and I just put a piece of masking tape the same level as the horizon line, and this means I can start to build up some texture onto the canvas before I actually start to put down the color ground.
