- So we're going to take a bit of detour. Having just spent a good deal of time explaining the process of sketching a shampoo bottle in perspective we're going to go revisit this concept with an emphasis on orthographic only. Too often people think of orthographic sketching as overly technical in appearance and difficult for non-designers to read. This may be true, but if the orthographics are done as quick freehand sketches with some additional line weight and hatch lines, or even marker, they can be very effective in communicating ideas, which can then in turn be developed in perspective. Any efforts put into developing concepts orthographically will reap dividends when it comes time to translate them into perspective for the simple reason that you've already mapped the geometry, so to speak.
