Sketching inside the box: The scaffolding analogy

- So now we're ready to start sketching. Our initial focus will be on cubic forms, boxes, essentially, hence the title of this chapter, Sketching Inside the Box. But trust me, we'll break out of the box quickly, and everything we learn inside the box can be applied to more complex forms. The reason we start inside the box is simple. Almost everything we purchase comes in a box, which means it's the perfect spatial container for thinking about products, especially small cartons for products like toothpaste and perfume, which actually touch the various faces of the product. But just as importantly, nearly every room we've inhabited is box-like, which means the geometry of the cube is practically hard-wired in our brains. We know this space like the back of our hands, floor, ceiling, four walls, so making decisions is therefore almost intuitive.
