- So I'm going to walk you through my process, which I have intentionally kept as rudimentary as possible. Let me reiterate again, however, the importance of orthographic projection in this whole process. I've sketched a quick three view thumbnail of the concept, and with that knowledge, I have a pretty firm understanding of the overall volume, proportion, and placement of critical details. The top view, which I don't always include, favoring the front and side views instead for speed, has confirmed the sectional profile at the top and bottom. In my thumbnails, I'm not using projection unless I have to. What I'm doing is simply getting an idea roughed out so that I can lightly box in the overall dimension and start building in perspective. The other thing I did so that I feel somewhat confident about the box, if the box is wrong, everything that follows it will be off.
