Cropping to fit a space
- Cropping to fit a space is probably the most common cropping we do. Our photo is one size and our space is another. Happens all the time. Space too wide or too tall, or has words in it that we have to work around, or whatever. I have some spaces, some of which I've exaggerated extremely wide or extremely tall, mainly to show you how radically an image can be cropped to not only work, but even get better. For example, our runner on the beach gets stronger as she gets more tightly cropped. You couldn't tell at first, but the beach wasn't contributing much to the picture. Mom and daughter on the sofa are already tightly cropped, but we can get a lot tighter. All it takes is a slice to convey their age, their relationship, their mood, their hair, their clothing, the furnishings, and the warmth of the scene. Key is to find the descriptive slice.
