- [Nigel] Hi, welcome to Type Tips. I'm Nigel French. In this episode, I have a book design production tip for you and that is to put a number scale in your outside margin. The purpose of this is so that if you are communicating with a client over the phone, you could be precise about exactly what you're talking about rather than saying two-thirds of the way down, page five, you can see line 21, page five. Now I know in this day in and age that we have digital markup and we really shouldn't be communicating over the phone these kinds of instructions but in reality it happens. So it's a very easy thing to do. My numbers are on a non-printing layer. So when I press W, they go away. Which, of course, begs the question, if you're going to share this with a client in a PDF, how do we get them to show up? Let me show you that first. So if I make a PDF and I'm going to use a high quality print preset, I need to make sure that I am exporting all layers and that non-printing objects are…
