Blending letters with the Illustrator Blend tool

- Hi, I'm Nigel French. Welcome to Type Tips. On a recent visit to the excellent Design Museum in London, I saw this poster commemorating the museum's 30th birthday in the gift shop. And it gave me the idea for showing how to achieve this kind of effect of blending numbers, or letters together in Illustrator using the blend tool. So I'm going to start out with an A and a B. And the key here, is to keep things as simple as possible. For that reason, I've chosen a very simple, monoweight, sans serif. It's called Lato, L-A-T-O. And I'm using the the lightest weight possible, which is hairline. Now I need to convert my type into outlines. Cmd + shift + o, or ctrl + shift + o, under the Type menu, it's right here. I actually want strokes rather than fills, so I'll press shift + x, to have stroked shapes. Now let's just see what we get, if we try and blend these two shapes together.
