- Jazz music in the late 1950s and '60s had a visual style popularized by Blue Note records that remains influential to this day. It was the work of designer Reid Miles, and it's characterized by two things primarily, bold typographic arrangements, like midnight blue, and the use of white space as a major design element. Classic example, black and white photo, extremely condensed type, magenta and yellow as the highlight, huge white space. This is cool, it's just chill.
