- Whenever you sit down and make something, two of the most important questions you can ask yourself are what am I trying to say and who am I saying it to. Keeping your potential audience in mind while you create is an essential part of the creative process. Whether we want to admit it or not, one of the inherent goals of making something is to have it be appreciated by others. This notion can be misleading. I'm not saying you should feel you have to make something for people to enjoy and consume. Those are commercial concerns. Enjoyment is just one of the potential outcomes of a successful piece of work. For that matter, so is comprehension. Sometimes the goal of a piece is to be confusing and impenetrable.
