Connection through meditation
(gentle music) - One key obstacle to creativity is avoidance. Avoidance is a situation where we have the opportunity to be creative, but we just back away. That backing away usually includes some fear. But there are a lot of other things that go on with avoidance. How do we move from avoidance to commitment? How do we move from avoidance to engagement with our creative practice? In my studio practice, I've devised strategies to allow me to resist avoidance and really create connection. When I enter my studio, I'll have some project going on, usually. And when I come up to that project and I sit down to work, I've learned that rather than diving in, I take a moment to stop. When we stop and we create a gap between our agenda and our project, it really helps us to slow down. And slowing down is so important. There's so much speed and distraction in our everyday lives. So one thing that I try, on a good day, to remember is to do a simple meditation. That simple meditation might look like…
