- Magazines often have a page of contributors who have written or photographed for the issue. This was one of the first pages I worked out, and I worked it out freeform without a grid. Early in the game so to speak, I didn't want the complication of being confined to the grid. First step was the section head in Peristyle, and this time I used the Q2 that we used on the cover. My thinking was because contributors come and go, this might be an interesting addition, so sit it on the page, and the question of course is, does this add or not? I added our six contributors in that square motif and in a horizontal row like we just saw. I will almost always start with this kind of uniformity and simplicity. Though I tried something unusual, the midtown look we just saw with the type crossing into the photo, I tried it here and I liked it. It's pretty, it's distinctive, it's clear, it's a style, but I can tell now that adding columns of text will make an uninteresting page, six things all…
