Creating abstract letterforms with the Illustrator Blend tool

- [Nigel] Hi, I'm Nigel French, welcome to Type Tips. In a previous tip I showed a technique for blending letters or numbers using Illustrator's Blend Tool. Here I'd like to take that technique further and show you how to create abstract letter forms by blending together the individual strokes of each letter. As I did before, I'm starting with a very simple font. This is Lato Hairline. It is available on Adobe Fonts. I need to convert my editable type to Outlines. And I need my fill shapes to become stroke shapes. I'll press Shift + X to toggle my fill and my stroke. I'm going to set the weight of the stroke to a 1/2 point. Then I'm going to come and Ungroup the letters and release any compound paths. Now letter by letter I'm going to remove the parts of the stroke that I don't want. So let's zoom in nice and close. I'll come and get my Scissors Tool. Now in the case of the Y I'm going to click at the top left anchor…
