Creating hand-inked text in Photoshop and Illustrator

- [Instructor] Welcome to Type Tips. I'm Nigel French. There are numerous ways to create a hand-inked or distressed look to your text in Photoshop. One of my favorite ways is to paint in the type using a layer mask, and in this episode of Type Tips, I want to quickly show you that technique, but I also want to show you how to do the equivalent in Illustrator so that the artwork remains entirely vectors. And what's more, I'll be painting in Illustrator using a Photoshop brush or at least a vector brush that is derived from a Photoshop brush. So I'm starting here in Photoshop and I'm going to place, as a linked smart object, my text that was created in Illustrator. In this instance, I'm going to crop to the art box. I'll press return to commit to that. So to this vector smart object layer, I'm going to add a layer mask by holding down the option key and clicking on the add mask icon.
