- I feel like my creative process has benefited greatly from something, and that is that when I was eight or nine years old, my parents became vegetarians, which meant I became a vegetation. Now, I'm not going to tell you that diet influences creativity. Maybe it does, who knows? But I want you to imagine that it's the late 1970s, and you're growing up in Oklahoma. There are a lot of cows in Oklahoma, which means there's a lot of meat being eaten, so if your eight or nine, and you're a vegetarian, there's a very easy way to describe you, and that is, weird. For my entire upbringing, most of the people around me thought that I was weird, and that was great, because I learned that it doesn't matter if people think you're weird. Now, you might say, oh, well, goody for you, so what? Well, the so what is that most of your creative impulses are going to die because you're going to sit on them, because you're going to be afraid that if you express them, or pursue them, people will think…
