- Before we read text, visuals will capture our attention first. Paying attention to the types of visuals we use is incredibly important. They connect with our audience and represent how we think as individuals, brands, or companies. Culturally conscious visual communication, includes all mediums like photography, graphics, icons, and even fonts. This is our visual language. While people are becoming more aware of cultural inclusion, we're not quite there yet with our visual representations. Visuals that aren't on par with our cultural symbolism risk mocking cultural heritage and take away from the beauty and the diversity that we all have. One of the most common visuals we see in Latin X and Hispanic market is the overuse of Calaveras, the sugar skulls. We see it on branding, packaging, apparel, and costumes.
