- So, in preparing to do this series I was speaking with my 11-year-old niece Ava, and I said Ava, if you were going to offer any advice to adults about being creative, what would it be? And she thought for a minute, and she's just an incredible drawer and totally uninhibited, and she said, tell them not to think too much. And I said, that's really, really good advice. One of the things that can be obstacles for, an obstacle for people is this idea of the intellect taking over, and using that part of the brain can sometimes feel kind of closed down. I think trying to connect with a more intuitive way of working can really be liberating. A strategy towards that that anyone can do would be something called blind contour drawing, and I'm going to show you an example of that in a minute. But I also want to tell you just a really short story about a student of mine, an adult student of mine, who came to me to learn to draw.
