- When we're creatively blocked, our limbic systems have taken over. We're in fight, flight or flee mode. Unsurprisingly, as we calm down, the brain's electrical activity goes down and our brainwaves slow down along with it. But the mind itself becomes more energized. Doing mindless work is a great way to calm the limbic system down out of fight, flight, or flee mode, to relax the brain, and to encourage ideas and creativity to start to flow. By the way, don't think that doing mindless activity will take you off track from getting to your big idea. It's actually a necessary part of the creative process. While you're working away, your subconscious will get the much needed space it needs to shift through all of the information that you've saturated it with and to start making new connections between distant concepts and form new concepts.
