- I've always thought it was crazy that when someone was really good at their job they often get promoted to a position well higher on the food chain, actually has different responsibilities than the ones they had excelled at, like leadership or management. Design schools should teach about working with fellow designers. These are skills that can be taught and can be learned. If you're an art director or supervising creatives it's up to you to bring out the best in your people. Being a boss is hard, if things go well, you get the credit, but if things go badly, you get the blame. The most important thing to remember is that the people who work under you rely on you to lead them. An empathetic way to lead, is to show them that you believe in them, maybe more than they believe in themselves.
