- One of the great misconceptions around creativity is that you have to be wild and unpredictable in order to create. A lot of people assume there's no rhyme or reason as to how creativity flows and that in order to be truly creative, you have to be ready to receive inspiration at all times. Now I'm not going to say that following your inspiration is not a great way to make something, it's the best way. But inspiration will only get you so far. Most of the time, a piece of work doesn't just appear complete. Often, you need to revisit it a couple times and it can be hard to regain the thread of where you were. I've found that the key to completing work is to evolve a process. Now this can be a tricky thing because critically thinking about how you make something can be counterintuitive to the act of creation, I mean, if you were critically thinking about being creative, you probably wouldn't have made anything in the first…
