- When you're working on a look, sometimes it helps to start with an easy page, which is what I've done here with a feature called Snapshot. This is a photo feature similar to what you'd see in National Geographic, where we have a two-page photo, full-bleed, gorgeous small amount of copy. So, I started by setting the grid and the hang-line, you'll see that this grid is six columns, not seven, and placed the photo full bleed. It's almost an overpowering effect in this case, then in the upper-left corner I set the section ahead in the typeface Peristyle. I love this typeface, it's the same as our logo type, super-distinctive, super-vertical. As I work through the magazine, it really became one of the defining design features of Leaf & Mortar. Then in the first column at the hang-line, set The Red Dahlia! headline also in Peristyle. And then flowed the Miller text in below that.
