- [Instructor] Hi I'm Nigel French, welcome to Type Tips. Here's an interesting exercise, designing a book cover using the proportions of the golden rectangle, 1.618 and positioning elements using a golden spiral. I'll come to my layers panel and turn on that golden spiral guide. And you can see how that has informed the way the picture is cropped, and the way the type is positioned, and those proportions have informed the sizing of the different pieces of type. So first of all, let's take a look at my page dimensions. I'm actually working in millimeters here. So if I come to my document setup, my width is 135, my hight is 135 times 1.618, or 218.43 millimeters. Now we don't have in InDesign that golden spiral guide, but we do have it in Photoshop, so in Photoshop, I created a document at the same size, turned on my crop tool, came to my crop tool options, and chose golden spiral.
