Highlight spaces in justified type

- [Nigel] Welcome to Type Tips, I'm Nigel French. This tip is to help you achieve a good type color with justified text in InDesign. There is a very useful Composition preference called H&J Violations, that will highlight spacing problems. When we turn that on we see highlighted in yellow and spacing issues. But, the thing is, valuable though this is, it doesn't indicate problems, per se, but rather it shows us where InDesign can't honor the settings we've chosen. So it is actually possible, if you choose bad settings, I'm going to come to my Word Spacing here, I can make that highlighting go away, but that doesn't mean that my spacing is better than it was before. In fact, it's now worse. So I'm going to turn that Composition preference off. I'm not suggesting not to use it. It's very useful, but you might want to use it in combination with the thing that I'm about to show you.
