- The cool idea behind designing to use less ink is that it requires you to think minimally so instead of how much stuff can I pack onto my page, it becomes how little can I put on my page? The fun paradox being that less is almost always more. Better design, better communication. To illustrate this last time, we went from this book cover of wall-to-wall ink to this one which is moistly white paper, light, airy, pretty and constrained to this workspace. No sooner had a posted this than I heard from Joe Marie Courtney of Tasmania who said I have some notices to print that need to be eye-catching enough to stand out on a crowded community notice board but that don't use too much ink. Her notices are for a new amateur musical theater society. She sent me to its Facebook page and I immediately loved it. I loved the headline. Do you love singing showtunes? I mean, what a fun perfect question. It's happy, it's inviting, it's engaging, it's a question, it instantly focuses the conversation…
