Modesty and ego is underrated
- Learning how to get out of your own head and appreciate the value of speaking in public far outweighs the fears you have and even helps you get over them. Many of us fear public speaking. I myself once did. Over 30 years ago when I first started my consulting practice, my husband kept encouraging me to speak and I refused. Eventually after much prodding, I saw an opportunity at a local event as part of a panel of 10 speakers, each of whom had 10 minutes to speak on the topic. This was followed by an individual speaker round table discussions with the audience. I was young, just around 26. My voice was shaking and I knew I tanked it, almost to the point of crying. Yet my round table attendance was double the size of any other speaker's table, and I quickly realized it was what I had to say that was more important than than how I said it. People quickly forgave my shaking voice because they loved the content.…
