Multitasking vs. monotasking
- I know for me one of my greatest obstacles to just getting to the studio or even just starting a creative idea is multitasking. I have long to-do lists, I have my teaching, my daughter, my dog, my household, my artwork, there's just so many things that we all feel like we need to check off our daily list of things to do. This multitasking is important to some extent, but when it comes down to being able to focus on a creative task, whether it's writing or drawing or whatever it might be, the idea of monotasking comes in. So monotasking instead of multitasking. It's a tough shift to make, but you might start to ask yourself, what's your relationship to time? And are you willing to give yourself the time to grow your creative habit? So for me one of my greatest loves is drawing and when I'm drawing I start to automatically monotask. All of my to-do lists, all of my stress starts to fall away. So I'm going to go ahead and just start sketching really without a big outcome, my coffee…
