- [Nigel] Hi, I'm Nigel French, welcome to "Type Tips." This week I have some tips about working with typographic ornaments. These ornaments are a great way to add embellishment and extend your typographic palette. They are symbols that are font characters in their own right and have all the properties of type. What's not obvious is how to find them. Many fonts that have ornaments as part of their character set don't advertise this fact. So you have to use the Glyphs panel to look for them. On the Glyphs panel you can come to the Show drop-down menu where you can filter the view to see a subset of the font and if you see ornaments in that list, then ornaments are available, and if you don't they are not. To insert an ornament you just double-click at the point of your cursor.
