Overview of the book

- [Instructor] To start with, I'd like to give you an overview of the project. This is the final version of my edition of Treasure Island. We'll be recreating this. If we look on the Pages panel, we can see that it has 266 pages. So it's very long, it's very text heavy, and this is going to bring up all sorts of typical issues that one would encounter when designing a book. There will be the design of the front matter. The dedications, the contents, list of illustrations. Then we get to the text itself. It's made up of many chapters. Three parts, and there are chapters within those parts. Each chapter starts with a chapter number, chapter title, and opening paragraph. We have the text, we have illustrations, all of which have captions. There will be issues of pagination. You can see that we have the page number, obviously. We also have a running head. And we'll be spending a lot of time refining our text, making sure that it is as readable as possible, that it has a good type color or density, and that we avoid common composition problems like widows and orphans. In addition, we'll also be creating a cover. Front cover, back cover, and spine. Now to do this, we will need some assets. I've included a link to the assets that I'm using. I've also included the assets themselves in the exercise files. So they are these. We have, from The Gutenberg Project, gutenburg.org, the text to the book. And gutenburg.org is a fantastic resource for free public domain books. From the British library flickr page, I've downloaded these images. In addition, also from the British library flickr page, I've downloaded the 1897 edition of Treasure Island. And this is useful just as a general reference, but specifically, as a reference for where the images are placed in the text. So, join me in the next movie where we will begin this project with a blank page.
