- As we scrambled through literally tens of thousands of logos to generate this report, one theme resurfaced too many times to ignore: pattern. And when I say pattern, I'm picturing those rhythmic solutions that are time and again time-tested and timeless. As opposed to our gradients, pattern often affords a graphic to break up tension with texture as opposed to additional colors. Now that's not to disrespect color in any way, but the use of an array of pattern and colors rob the viewer from the comfort of visual hierarchy. Dots and spots will take a central role in one of our trends this year, so as opposed to discussing them here, allow me just to point out that utilizing pattern does not have to be looked at as a throwback to nostalgia. I think designers have found a way to incorporate tonal variance in a fresh way, and for an audience of millennials or younger, they didn't see the excessive use of pattern in the '60s and the '90s, and since trends cycle in 30-year increments, we…
