- How do you set a headline that's big, that has presence, but is just whisper quiet? How about like this? I love this, it's soft, you see through it, you read through it, but it's present, it's in the air, it has life, it's pretty, and it's easy. It's just a word. Here, let me zoom in, tinted way back. This is 10% black, translucency set to multiply, and outlined with a white hairline. There are probably several ways to make this. Let's erase the page and I'll show you one. You may do it differently, but this will show you what needs to happen. Just set your word, black is fine. This typeface is Tarzana Wide by Zuzana Licko of Emigre Fonts, one of my favorite type designers and type houses. Default spacing, which is pretty wide, and what's interesting about that is you can see through it. This is true of almost any type that you spread out like this. So, the spacing here is amplifying the effect we want. You'll need a second copy of the word to make an outline, so I'd say copy it…
