- You may be so convinced that you're not creative, that when you feel put on the spot to perform creatively you go into a mode of self censoring and creative paralysis that completely blocks the flow of your ideas. This self censoring creates a state in which we feel intrinsically uncreative. The danger is that the process happens so fast and without conscious thought that we view it as truth. This way of thinking starts a self perpetuating habit cycle where the more we believe we aren't creative, the less we are able to come up with original ideas. And then for the few ideas that do make it through, our self judgment and self criticism causes us to completely dismiss and discount them. If you find that you have this habit, part of what may be going on is that you're trying to match the image of creativity in your head with some grand notion of what creativity is supposed to look like.
