- [Instructor] Typographic maps are a popular gift shop item and make a great souvenir of a favorite destination. These are the kind of things that I'm talking about. So I thought I'd have a go at creating my own. It's a time consuming process and, as you can see, I've only got as far as the western states of the U.S., but this has been enough to develop a method, which I'd like to share with you. Of course, there are no hard and fast rules, but this is my suggested approach. So the first thing I needed to do was acquire a vector outline of my continent, neighborhood, whatever it is we're doing. So I have a vector map of the U.S. with each state as its own distinct vector shape. And I'm doing this in Illustrator. So I'm going to continue and I'm going to do New Mexico next.
