Understanding problem design during the creative process
- After we've identified our objectives and gathered all of the relevant data, it's time to determine whether the problem we've started with is the right problem to solve. We do this by evaluating the data we've been gathering and designing the problem with our objective in mind. This may lead to a new problem, an edited version of the current problem, or it may validate the problem you began with. In the data gathering step, you created a one-minute version of your objective and surrounding data. Compare that version with the original problem. Ask yourself, will solving this problem lead to this objective? If the answer is yes, then you have the right problem to solve and can start in on step four of the process, ideation. But if the answer is no, you may need to either alter the problem or design a new one. If the current problem you're solving won't lead to the objective you've defined, ask yourself these…
