- [Nigel] Hi, I'm Nigel French, welcome to Type Tips. In this week's episode, I want to talk about adjusting space in display type. Now before I start doing this, there are some important preferences that we need to look at. So I'm going to press Command or Control + K to go to the preferences, units and increments, and the ones that concern me are this one, size/leading, I'm going to reduce that to one point, and then I want to make sure that kerning/tracking is set to the lowest increment possible, 1/1000 of an em. I want to fix the worst problem first, and the worst problem is the leading, the space between the lines. The problem has come about because we are using auto leading, which by default is 120% of the point size, and for headlines, that's just too much. So I'm going to select that type and use the keyboard shortcut to reduce the leading, which is Option or Alt and the up arrow, bringing these two lines closer…
