- In 2019, I ran workshops on empathy and design. It was experiment for me and it turned out better than I'd hoped. Each workshop has 100 people in it, and because it was a conference with 13,000 attendees, the people who signed up for the workshop represented a pretty random selection. People who were game for something weird like a workshop called Empathy and Design. After my lecture on empathy, we handed out two sets of numbers, one through 50, then people had to find the other person who had the number that matched theirs and sit with them at a table. No changing partners because the idea was to collaborate intentionally with a total stranger. Each person was forced to think about their role in this temporary partnership.
