- I think we all have a skeleton or two in our closet. Mine? I'm a bibliophile. I like books. At one time, the only way to really be exposed to the work of amazing logo designers was to find them in books. In particular, some of my favorites featured logos designed in the '60s and '70s and '80s, a lot of black and white logos back then, but with some incredible period aesthetics. I'm sure you've seen the same books, and they've gained a whole new popularity as the same marks are having a tremendous influence on designers today. One of the reasons there weren't as many logos in that period with halftones or second colors was driven by technology or the lack of technology. If we want to add tone or gradation or color to a design, we go to the swatch tab in whatever program we're creating in. When we post it or send it out to print, the technology automatically scales it and determines the best way to achieve the effect. We don't really have to give it a second thought. But in that…
